What students have to say about Anne Rice’s Academic Life Coaching

  • Caroline

    Iowa State University, Industrial Design

Anne Rice helped me transition to the hustle of college life with the skills and techniques she taught me. Through her, I learned how to organize my daily life into a Google calendar, something I use multiple times a day, to see my days as physical plans in front of me. This helped me to become more productive and strategic about when I wanted to get things done and made sure I got places EARLY instead of simply on time. Her helping me transition to college was a blessing and I could not be more thankful for everything she had to share with me. My first semester was smooth and easy with her help, as she is available to help whenever you need her. Anne is a resource that can only benefit you going forward, I know her guidance and coaching will help me stay organized and intentional with my planning and daily life for years to come.

Howdy y’all! I am a sophomore engineering major at Texas A&M University. After completing my first year at A&M I can narrow down three things that everyone needs to be successful during their first year of college. Food, sleep, and of course, Anne Rice! Her skills and support are by far what gave me the biggest advantage over other students in my class. The study habits and organizational skills are not something that I just used during my time with her, but I have continued to implement them in my studies, personal life, as well as my summer internship. With a program as rigorous as Texas A&M’s general engineering, I’m not sure how students got by without a mentor like Anne. She’s wonderful and I would encourage any student she works with to take advantage of that great opportunity, soak it in, and also be willing to lean on her through your personal tribulations throughout college. Because in all seriousness, college is supposed to be fun and she’s great at helping you have the well-rounded college experience everyone is looking for. Thanks and Gig’em!

Before meeting with Mrs. Rice I was super stressed and overwhelmed about everything that your freshman year of college will bring, my classes being my biggest worry. After the first few days of classes, I was terrified by the limited amount of time I had to complete the close to 100, assignments that I could see on all the syllabi. I called home, and my parents suggested that I meet with Mrs. Rice. During our meetings, Mrs. Rice helped me set up a super easy calendar which I still use to this day to manage all of my due dates, exams, and even what days I plan to do my assignments. With the help of this calendar, my stress levels went way down and I am able to stay a few days to even a week ahead in all of my classes which gives me the worry-free life a college student should have.

To say Anne was the best mentor a person could have would be an understatement. She helped me not only through school but through life itself. She gave me the tools and advice I needed to succeed and, if not for her, I don’t think I would have made it through college. Even though she had never dealt with my disability before, she worked with me and helped me develop in more ways than one. She was there for me through all my panic attacks about grades, calming me down and helping me plan a roadmap to success. She is like another mother to me now, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Before I was getting help from Anne I was very unorganized and not on top of my assignments and understanding time management. When I started getting help I became better at finishing homework on time and was able to stay on track with all my classwork. I still use the tips and tricks to this day and I’m not sure how I finished schoolwork before.

Anne helped me put together a schedule that fit my needs as a successful student and equipped me with tools that propelled me above my capabilities on my own. With her guidance as a mentor and helper, I was able to improve every aspect of my life while in college.

Ms. Rice has played a huge part in improving my planning and organizational skills. I still use the methods I’ve learned from her today, and they help me get more done each day. I can’t recommend her services enough.

It’s almost four years since we worked together. This weekend, I graduated with my CSM degree. I wanted to thank you for helping me get on my feet and stay organized and on top of my responsibilities. I accepted a job a few months ago and have been using your techniques to help me juggle work and school. Without your guidance, I highly doubt the results would have been the same. I hope you are doing well and are continuing to help bright students that just need a little guidance.

What parents have to say about Anne Rice’s Academic Life Coaching

Parent of a Texas A&M Physics & Statistics student

Parent of an Iowa State University Industrial Design student

Anne Rice gave me total parent peace of mind when launching both my students into college. My son and daughter (4 years apart) were academically well-prepared in high school but faced a massive leap transitioning to the unstructured learning environment of college. I considered the investment in academic coaching as fundamental as their room & board. Anne's approach was no-nonsense, active, and practical. She not only taught them which executive-functioning skills they needed (as they could have received "free" from their university academic success center), but she actually apprenticed them with the required new skills. She came along beside them to work their real-time calendars and commitments. They learned to prioritize their time, add structure to their days, meet assignment deadlines, prepare for tests, assess and problem-solve their performance in every class, and intervene with professors or TA's as needed. My son, on the autism spectrum, requested Anne's intensive coaching for his first two semesters at a leading university--he graduated with honors in Physics and Statistics last year and still uses the techniques he learned from Anne in his corporate job. My daughter required Anne's help for only one semester at her renowned design college--and is thriving as an honors student on the dean's list and a leader in multiple student organizations. I advise other parents to invest in a coach before their student hits the inevitable bumps of freshman year, as the preparation steps from the day they receive the syllabi are crucial. Anne Rice freed me to be "encouraging mom" while she handled the tough week-to-week drills, techniques, strategies, and setbacks. I would not send another student to college without this level of support.

We learned of Anne's academic coaching services in the fall of 2018 as our first child was beginning her first semester in engineering at Texas A&M University. We are a First Gen family from a small, Texas 3A school district and thought our daughter was academically prepared for TAMU, but soon discovered that the road to an Aggie engineering degree would definitely be challenging. I contacted Anne with our concerns and she set up an initial session. Like most freshmen in TAMU engineering, our daughter never had to work hard for the A's she earned in high school so she did not have to manage her study time too strictly. Anne taught our daughter the value of time management needed to be successful at Texas A&M and taught her how to block off her weeks to dedicate the appropriate amount of time to her studies and personal life. This was definitely a game changer for her while at TAMU. She learned how to apply these skills to successfully earn a BS in Industrial Distribution and a minor in business and to have a job offer upon graduation. Six months post graduation and in the working world, she still uses the learned time management skills in the office and in her personal life. When our son entered college in the fall of 2019, we immediately signed him up for a session with Anne as we knew that Anne's coaching is a necessary part of the freshman semester while adjusting to college life. A few weeks ago, in a text conversation with our son, he replied back with "I'm busy. I have 12 goals to complete for today." I knew with that reply, that our son is still using the skills that Anne taught him. He is set to graduate from Texas A&M College of Engineering in May, 2024 with a BA in Computing, a minor in cybersecurity, and a Concept, Creation, and Commercialization (C3) Certificate from the Engineering Entrepreneurship Program.

I saw Anne on an Aggie Mom Facebook page. She has been known to help students with learning disabilities such as ADD or ADHD through tools to help them study and get organized. My daughter has PDD which is on the Autism Spectrum. I thought maybe she could help my daughter who was struggling terribly her freshman year at Texas A&M. After a quick conference call, we immediately hired her. My daughter would be her first student with PDD. I gave her a brief overview of my daughter’s learning disability and her strengths. Anne helped my daughter flourish the next 3 1⁄2 years by giving her organization skills for her schoolwork, confidence to build on, and tools to use in studying and test taking. Anne has different levels of need packages and pricing to fit your student’s needs. I highly recommend her and the service she provides.

I love Anne! She was understanding of my son and did her best to accommodate his needs. She worked with him and introduced him to skills that he didn't learn in high school. She was always concerned about his well-being and had great follow-up. If your cadet/student needs time management, hire Anne!
